To make certain that your teeth remain at their best, you should brush at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, and 30 minutes after every meal, if possible. But did you know that what you eat can literally make or break your teeth? Let’s take a look at some dietary habits that can give you a stronger, brighter smile.

The first tip is obvious: avoid sugary and starchy snacks and foods. The bacteria present in the plaque on your teeth will interact with sugar to create acids. Over time, these acids break down the enamel on your teeth, leading to cavities.

The best drink for your teeth is water. Water will keep your mouth hydrated and wash away food particles that can lead to tooth decay.

Try eating and snacking on fruits and vegetables, especially those that have a bit of a crunch to them. Think apples, or carrots. These foods help to scrub your teeth, and generate saliva, which is a key component to oral health. Lean protein from beef, poultry and fish are also good choices. Cheese and yogurt are great sources of calcium, which is needed for strong teeth. Of course, calcium can be found in milk but milk, like many other products also contains sugar. If you want to include milk in your diet, read the label when you are purchasing it so that you are aware of the sugar content.
