The ultimate goal of dental care is to protect your teeth and prevent them from sustaining damage due to tooth decay or other factors. However, sometimes our dentist may need to extract a tooth from your mouth in order to preserve your oral health and prevent further damage to your other teeth and supporting oral structures.
While we do everything we can to help you avoid the need for a tooth extraction, there are some circumstances that may make a tooth extraction the best option for restoring your oral health and function. These circumstances include:
- Severe infection that has destroyed large portions of the tooth and supporting bone structure
- Severe decay that has damaged the tooth beyond the point of successful restorative treatment
- Overcrowding from having too many teeth in the mouth
Our dentist uses great care and skill when performing a tooth extraction. Our goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible during this procedure. After your tooth has been removed, we will provide you with post-op instructions to help you heal properly. After you have healed, we will begin working with you to find an appropriate replacement for your missing tooth. Depending on the number of teeth extracted and your own desires and needs, this restoration may be a dental bridge, denture or dental implant.
