Here are some of the minimally invasive dentistry techniques we use at our practice:
Remineralization
Remineralization is the process of restoring important minerals within your teeth. Fluoride plays a very important role in remineralization, helping to strengthen your teeth and even reversing the early signs of decay.
Air Abrasion
When your tooth is decayed but cannot be remineralized using other methods, our dentist may use air abrasion to remove the decayed material. Air abrasion is often used instead of a traditional drill. It resembles microscopic sand blasting and uses a stream of air combined with a super-fine abrasive powder to gently remove decay from the structure of your tooth. Because it requires no drilling, air abrasion can sometimes be performed without local anesthesia.
Dental Sealants
Usually made of acrylic resin, dental sealants protect your teeth from cavity-causing bacteria and prevent tooth decay. Sealants fit into the grooves and depressions of your teeth and act as a barrier, protecting against acid and plaque. Sealants do not require any preparation of the tooth prior to placement and can be placed on teeth that might be susceptible for decay at any time.
